Frequently Asked Questions

What does your therapy process look like?

The initial evaluation sessions will focus on getting to know you, general mental health questions, and understanding why you are seeking therapy at this time. Once we have collaboratively agreed that we are a good fit to continue treatment together and identify your therapeutic goals, we will typically meet once a week for 45-minute sessions.

Where does therapy take place?

I currently see clients living in New York State virtually via a secure telehealth platform. I also offer in-person therapy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

How much does a session cost?

I offer a free introductory 15-minute phone consultation. The cost for the initial 60-minute evaluation session is $200. Following evaluation, the cost is $150 per 45-minute session. However, I do offer a sliding scale on a limited basis which is financial needs based.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, I am considered an out-of-network provider for insurance companies. However, I can provide you with documentation to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if they have out-of-network coverage.

What is therapy, and how can it help me?

Therapy, also known as counseling or psychotherapy, is a collaborative process that provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Therapy can help you gain insights, develop coping skills, improve relationships, enhance self-awareness, and navigate life's challenges more effectively.

What is Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

ACT is a form of psychotherapy that combines mindfulness, acceptance, and behavioral change strategies to help individuals develop psychological flexibility and live more meaningful lives. ACT is based on the idea that suffering is a normal part of being human, and that by accepting our experiences and committing to actions aligned with our values, we can transcend our struggles and find fulfillment.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

CBT is a goal-oriented, structured approach to therapy that explores the link between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is based on the belief that our thoughts influence our emotions and behaviors, and by changing our thoughts, we can improve our well-being. In CBT, therapists work collaboratively with clients to identify and challenge negative or irrational thoughts and beliefs that contribute to distressing emotions and maladaptive behaviors. By addressing these thoughts and beliefs, clients can gain a new perspective, develop healthier thinking patterns, and make positive changes in their lives.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the administration of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, with psychotherapy. It is used to address mental health conditions, especially mood disorders like depression and anxiety, by integrating the use of ketamine to enhance the therapeutic process. Ketamine can induce an altered state of consciousness characterized by a sense of detachment from one's body and surroundings. This altered state can enhance introspection, emotional processing, and therapeutic insights, making it an effective adjunct to psychotherapy.

You can find out more about how I use KAP in practice here.

What is psychedelic integration?

Psychedelic integration refers to the process of incorporating and making sense of the insights, emotions, and experiences that arise from psychedelic journeys. It involves working with a therapist to navigate the aftereffects and integrate the profound and often transformative experiences into one's daily life.

Please note that I do not provide psychedelic substances or facilitate psychedelic journeys. Instead, my role is to assist you in integrating and making sense of your experiences in a therapeutic context.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can be beneficial for anyone seeking personal growth, support, or guidance during difficult times. If you're experiencing emotional distress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, or simply want to enhance your well-being, therapy can provide a space for self-exploration, healing, and personal development.

How long does therapy last?

The duration of therapy varies depending on your unique needs, goals, and the complexity of your concerns. Some individuals may find short-term therapy helpful for specific issues, while others may engage in longer-term therapy for more in-depth exploration and personal growth. Together with your therapist, you can discuss and determine the appropriate duration for your therapy journey.

How do I choose the right therapist for me?

Choosing the right therapist is an important decision. Consider factors such as the therapist's expertise, therapeutic approach, personality, and areas of specialization. It can be helpful to schedule an initial consultation or phone call to assess their suitability and ensure a good therapeutic fit.

Can I bring up certain topics or concerns in therapy?

Absolutely. Therapy is a space for you to discuss any topics or concerns that are important to you. Your therapist is trained to address a wide range of issues and will work with you to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore and process your thoughts and emotions.

What does it mean to be a limited-permit therapist?

It means that I have completed my formal education in mental health counseling and have obtained a limited permit that allows me to practice therapy under the supervision of a licensed professional. During this phase, I work closely with my licensed supervisors who guide and support me in my clinical work. They review my cases and provide valuable feedback to ensure the quality and effectiveness of our work together. While I am still in the process of becoming a fully licensed therapist, please know that I am committed to providing you with the best care possible, and my supervisors are there to ensure the quality and safety of our therapeutic work.
